New Saltbox House Plans

Saltbox house plans are highly sought after today, due to the simplicity, beauty and strength of their unique design. The houses are wooden framed, and once, post and beam constructed, with one story in the back, and 2 stories in the front.

Many of the beautiful saltbox house plans of yesterday and today, are identified by the sturdy, prominent and massive fireplace. An inviting feature like that is felt to be a welcoming gesture of many homes.

Perhaps the most noticeable and unique feature to the saltbox design, is its asymmetrical pitched
roof when looking at the side view. Being high and short at the front side, and low and long at the back side, allows the saltbox house to stand out from the rest.

Many saltbox house plans, at the rear area of the long pitched (lean-to) section, contained the
kitchen with an oven and fireplace, a pantry, and a room kept available for childbirth, nursing,
and the sick.

The large open space, with a possible kitchen and dining room combination, is a sought after choice of house plans today. House plans such as these, offer the modern, opened up space, yet still keep the old fashioned traditional appearance of the exterior.

The saltbox house plans may be the most memorable of New England. They are of Colonial style design originating in New England. Most popular in the years of 1650 to 1830, throughout the Colonial and early American era. The design looked much like a wooden box with a lid, (where salt was once stored), hence, the design got its name.
